Stewart Friesen of Sprakers, NY took four laps into the 50 lap contest to figure out where he had to race if he wanted to have an opportunity to win the race.

With the next 32 laps going without a caution Friesen raced hard in the extreme top groove of the multi grooved Afton Motorsports Park surface. The first ever race was held on August 19, 1933. Over the years Afton Fairgrounds hosted many of the nation's top drivers and here is just a sampling of them. Indy 500 veterans Bob Sall, Billy Winn, George "Doc" Mackensie, Ken Fowler and Ted Horn among others.
